BACKGROUND:
On the 20th of November 2025, the team M. Jäger, G. Rhemann and E. Prosperi, photographed a strange occurrence around 3I/Atlas. It appears multiple smaller objects were potentially ejected away from the main object at very high speed.

ANALYSIS:
Could these smaller objects shooting away from 3I/Atlas be probes deploying, small pieces the broke off 3I/Atlas or several satellites passing in-front of the path of the camera? Avi Loeb in a Medium post earlier today speculates these three possibilities and suggests future observations of 3I/Atlas might reveal the correct answer.

On the 4th of October 2025 I presented a sequence of photographs showing similar objects streaking across the Martian sky, these were photographed by the Perseverance Rover as 3I/Atlas was passing Mars.

Could 3I/Atlas be ejecting smaller pieces, deploying probes or might smaller objects be accompanying 3I/Atlas? The MRO HiRISE photograph of 3I/Atlas released recently could have answered this question, but due to the low resolution, this is not the possible.

As always, until we get to see these anomalies up close and personal, I can only speculate as to what these objects might be.

BACKGROUND:
The image analyzed here (ESP_089922_9081) was acquired by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) HiRISE Camera on 2 October 2025 and is described as ‘HiRISE Image of Exocomet 3I/ATLAS.’

ANALYSIS:
In this feature I present NASA’s recent “hi-resolution” image release (19 November 2025) of 3I/Atlas photographed by the HiRISE camera onboard the MRO almost two months ago. The image is in fact low resolution and burred, it was also cropped from the larger photograph. It doesn’t show much detail and no stars or galaxies are seen in the background. I was looking forward to a hi-resolution photograph showing the object as well as potential smaller objects occupying the main object.

On 4 October 2025 I presented a sequence of photographs taken by Perseverance Rover on 4 October 2025 of the Martian sky showing around nine small object moving across the sky. I was hoping to see if these are also visible in the HiRISE photograph.

I also present photographs taken of 3I/Atlas by the Perseverance Rover, ExoMars TGO and Tianwen-1.

On the 16th of November 2025 astrophotographer Satoru Murata photographed 3I/Atlas. In my opinion this is the best photograph of 3I/Atlas to date

ANALYSIS:
The photograph shows the object still intact with the anti-tails and jets seen previously. Many speculate that the object broke up when it was closest to the Sun. NASA still hasn’t released HiRISE photographs of 3I/Atlas.

Until we get better data and photographs we can only speculate what 3I/Atlas might be.

On the 9th of November 2025, the team Michael Buechner and Frank Niebling, photographed 3I/Atlas at around 9 to 12 degrees above the horizon.

ANALYSIS:
The photograph shows a massive plume and smaller anti-tail: 0.95 million kilometers for the sunward anti-tail jets and 2.85 million kilometers for the tail jet away from the Sun. Avi Loeb also provides his analysis regarding this latest development.

Until we get better data and photographs we can only speculate what 3I/Atlas might be.

On the 8th of November 2025, the team M. Jäger, G. Rhemann and E. Prosperi, photographed 3I/Atlas at around 7 to 10 degrees above the horizon.

ANALYSIS:
The photograph shows a curious development which has taken place, 3I/Atlas shows at least five jets (some anti-tails pointing towards the Sun).

Could these jets be as a result of ice melting and venting off into space (although a comet normally has only one tail pointing way from the Sun) or could these be jet thrusters firing? Is 3I/Atlas changing its course?

Until we get better data and photographs we can only speculate.
