BACKGROUND:
The photograph analyzed here (E0101132) was acquired by NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) on 2001-02-17 and is described as ‘Aram Chaos mapping.’
ANALYSIS:
Featured here is a huge rectangular object measuring approximately 100 metres wide. It appears to be partially embedded in the Martian surface with a strange material covering part of it and the immediate surroundings. There is also a elongated/dome-like protrusion in its center. This object has a hatch-type of appearance, perhaps a structure … or might it be an object of some kind that crashed into the Martian surface in the distant past? Could the material covering the object and its immediate surroundings be some type of plant-like material, e.g. fungus, vines, roots, vegetation etc.
As always, until we get to see these anomalies up close and personal, I can only speculate as to what these objects might be.

Following is a cropped image taken from the original MGS MOC photograph as well as a close-up view of the anomaly upscaled using Topaz Labs’ Gigapixel (more about Gigapixel below).
Gigapixel upscaled images preserving their edges whereas conventional image magnification produces blurred images.
